R.I.P. Uriel Jones (Hurt By Love by Silky Hargraves)
Pretty sure that's Uriel on this one. Forget about Motown for a second and try and remember all the off-Motown tracks this guy OWNED! He owned this track for sure! (sorry about the crackle)
Politicians In My Eyes by Death
I just love when something comes around that actually blurs lines that were supposedly previously pretty definite. This is from 1974.

Silence by Portishead
Forgot this one in my best of '08. This one's like CAN??? A couple other tunes are very Silver Apples reminiscent. Some even sound like Portishead.

R.I.P. Lyman Woodard
Another broken part of my heart. I had the pleasure of hiring Lyman to play on an SSM recording of his composition which Szymanski wrote some words for. Just called him out of the phone book..."yep, what's the address? Hundred an hour." After the strictly one hour session he proceeded to ask for gas and food stipend for Slow's across the street.
Saturday Night Special (Parts 1 & 2)
I also hold this LP dear in my heart because of a European tour with a certain R&B cover band from Detroit. After a hellish time on stage every night with the herion using singer I would retreat to the tour bus and proceed, every night, to play this LP. after about 3 nights, said singer would go into a rage about, "which mother fucker is putting on this HALF ASSED SHIT every night?!" It made me play it even more times every day, and on headphones even.
